State Leads Delegation of Maryland Companies to MEDICA 2017, Awards ExportMD Grants to Companies

Medical forum attracts more than 5,000 exhibitors from across the globe

BALTIMORE, MD (November 13, 2017) – The Maryland Department of Commerce is leading a delegation of 11 Maryland companies this week to MEDICA 2017, the world’s largest medical trade show held every year in Dusseldorf, Germany. This is the eighth year that Maryland – through Commerce’s Office of International Investment and Trade – has participated in the global trade show as part of a continuing strategy to boost trade and promote Maryland to overseas businesses.

Maryland is hosting a 54-square-meter booth that gives each of the participating companies a kiosk to demonstrate their products and services at the show, which attracts nearly 130,000 attendees from around the world.

“With more than 5,100 exhibitors last year, MEDICA is the perfect place to showcase our life science and biotechnology businesses and assets in the global market,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Mike Gill. “Being in front of the world’s top global health companies and more than 130,000 attendees provides a unique opportunity to show that Maryland is open for business.”

The Maryland companies exhibiting at MEDICA this year include Alpha Biosciences (Baltimore City); BioElectronics Corporation (Frederick County); BioStat Solutions, Inc. (Frederick County); Cavalier Logistics (Howard County); EndoMaster (Prince George’s County); IOB Medical (Montgomery County); Smith Associates (Anne Arundel County); SonoWorld Inteleos (Montgomery County); Tetracore (Montgomery County); Trideum Biosciences (Frederick County); and U.S. Medical Innovations (Montgomery County).

Joining the Maryland delegation for the first time is Cavalier Logistics, a globally-recognized leader in biopharmaceutical logistical services. Earlier this month, Cavalier held a grand opening for its new facility in Howard County, which the company says is "biotech heaven" with resources, infrastructure, and a perfect Mid-Atlantic location.

“Our new cold room will allow us to go above and beyond and bring the next level of service to pharmaceutical companies looking for help with temperature controlled environments,” said Cliff Wyllie, vice president of bio-pharma healthcare services at Cavalier Logistics. “The Maryland Department of Commerce and its ExportMD program have been wonderful to us, and MEDICA seems like the best event to make the global community aware of the services we offer. We are very excited.”

Maryland Commerce recently awarded several ExportMD grants to local companies to help them expand into the global marketplace. In addition to Cavalier Logistics, other MEDICA attendees traveling with help from the program include Alpha Biosciences, EndoMaster Medical, Smith Associates, Tetracore, and Trideum Biosciences.

ExportMD grants are provided to small and mid-size companies on a bi-monthly basis to assist with traveling and marketing costs associated with international trade shows. The next application deadline for the ExportMD program is December 1, 2017 and eligibility requirements can be found on the Commerce website.
