Medifast Expands with New Distribution Center in Harford County, Adds Up to 300 New Jobs

Global company behind holistic health community OPTAVIA has impacted more than two million lives

BALTIMORE, MD (February 24, 2022) — Medifast, the global company behind one of the fastest-growing health and wellness communities, OPTAVIA®, has expanded into Harford County with a new distribution facility. Located at 2000 Rock Glenn Boulevard, the Havre de Grace operations will allow the company to significantly accelerate delivery times and improve service-level agreements. The facility, which is now fully operational, will employ up to 300 people.

“We are relentless in our commitment to delivering operational excellence to support our OPTAVIA Coach and Client Community,” said Dan Chard, chairman and CEO of Medifast. “With the opening of the Havre de Grace distribution center, Medifast will have two fulfillment centers wholly dedicated to the East Coast region. We plan to continue optimizing our manufacturing and fulfillment operations, helping meet demand through 2022 and beyond.”

With more than 40 years of experience, Medifast is committed to creating a healthier world and believes lifelong transformation is achieved one healthy habit at a time. Since introducing the OPTAVIA brand in 2017, the company has tripled its revenue by focusing on its OPTAVIA Coach business model. Medifast has been named to both Fortune's 100 Fastest-Growing Companies and Forbes' 100 Most Trustworthy Companies in America lists in recent years.

“Medifast has proven itself to be one of the world’s leading health and wellness companies and we couldn’t be happier to watch them grow and thrive in Maryland,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “With this new facility and the potential for hundreds of new jobs in the region, the company shows its commitment to its home state and keeping Maryland open for business.”

To assist with project costs, the Maryland Department of Commerce is working with the company to explore financial assistance options, including the state’s Job Creation Tax Credit. Harford County is assisting with workforce transportation solutions, including the launch of a new bus stop on the Route 5 Teal Line in proximity to the facility, which was implemented on October 4th.

“We are thrilled that Medifast has grown its Maryland footprint and expanded its distribution operations to Harford County,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Mike Gill. “We hope this additional facility will help the company continue its positive trajectory and serve thousands of more customers in the months and years ahead.”

“Harford County continues to attract nationally known companies that benefit from the skilled workforce in our region,” County Executive Barry Glassman said. “We welcome Medifast and the jobs they’re bringing to our families and communities.”
