Governor Moore Launches Campaign to Bring Young Professionals to Maryland During Department of Commerce Visit

BALTIMORE, MD (March 6, 2024) — Governor Wes Moore today joined Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Kevin Anderson for a tour of the department's headquarters in Baltimore. The governor and secretary joined more than 150 department employees to unveil a new component of the department’s ‘Be Moved’ ad campaign to attract young, high-tech professionals and college students to Maryland, part of the administration’s efforts to make Maryland more competitive.

"The talented public servants at the Department of Commerce are leading our work to make Maryland more competitive. They inspire me – and I'm grateful that they've raised their hands to serve," said Gov. Moore. "The department's new campaign to bring young professionals to Maryland speaks to the creativity and intentionality at the heart of our administration. Together, we will continue to make Maryland the best state in the nation to live, work, and thrive."

The new ‘Be Moved’ ads will run in markets across the U.S. and will drive users to liveworkmaryland.com, a website that highlights what it’s like to live and work in Maryland. The site features testimonials from young professionals who share perspectives on living in Maryland, resources to connect interested workers to jobs, as well as other programs offered in the state.

“One of the most important factors in attracting new businesses to the state, as well as helping existing businesses expand, is the availability of a highly-educated and highly-skilled workforce,” said Secretary Anderson. “With this campaign, we will be able to show our companies, as well as those interested in locating in Maryland, that we are focused on ensuring they have the best and brightest workers to help grow their business.”

Be Moved, also used in the state’s business attraction marketing, was created by Planit, a full-service marketing agency in Baltimore, and is funded by the Maryland Marketing Partnership, a public-private marketing arm created to develop a branding strategy for the state, market the state’s assets and encourage the location and growth of new businesses in Maryland. The Maryland Department of Commerce’s marketing team works closely with the Partnership to manage and oversee the direction of the campaign.

During his visit with the department, the governor also met with Secretary Anderson and heard from agency leadership and team members about the department’s efforts to attract and retain businesses, as well as connect with businesses around the state. The governor then held a town hall discussion with team members to learn more about the many ways that Commerce stimulates private investment and creates jobs by attracting new businesses, encourages the expansion and retention of existing companies, and provides workforce training and financial assistance to Maryland companies.
