Maryland Department of Commerce and Baltimore Development Corporation partner to facilitate 10-year lease on 150,000 square feet of commercial space at East Patapsco Avenue
BALTIMORE, MD (March 1, 2023)—Governor Wes Moore today announced that Home Chef, an online and in-store meal solutions company, will establish a new manufacturing and distribution center in Baltimore City, creating more than 500 new full-time jobs in the community by 2024. The Maryland Department of Commerce and Baltimore Development Corporation worked proactively with Home Chef to assist with project costs, location services, and a 10-year lease agreement that will result in Home Chef occupying approximately 150,000 square feet of space located at 1701 East Patapsco Avenue.
“Home Chef’s entrance into Maryland will help diversify the state’s business community, expand local job opportunities, and reflect new investment in Maryland’s economic competitiveness,” said Governor Moore. “We are working diligently with our partners across the state and in local communities to create work, wages, and wealth for all Marylanders and believe deeply in the potential and opportunities that lie ahead for Baltimore City.”
Home Chef is the leading meal solutions company with a presence online and in-stores and provides approachable, delicious meals that simplify the cooking process. Since the company's creation in 2013, it has grown to include more than 2,500 employees while serving more than 300 million meals across the nation. Home Chef is available both online and at more than 2,400 retail stores in the Kroger Family of Companies.
“We are thrilled to welcome Home Chef to Maryland. This expansion will allow the company to tap into the Mid-Atlantic market, while supporting the local economy and bringing hundreds of jobs to Baltimore,” said Maryland Commerce Acting Secretary Kevin Anderson. “We are thankful to the entire Home Chef team for its investment in the state.”
The new Baltimore facility will be Home Chef’s largest by volume, accounting for more than 30% of Home Chef’s meal solutions delivered nationwide. The production and distribution center was designed specifically to meet Home Chef’s high food safety standards and will provide increased efficiencies for docking, storage, and facility flow.
"Home Chef's move into Baltimore City to expand its manufacturing and distribution center is yet another example of how the city's strategic location and easy access via rail, highway, port and air makes it a great manufacturing and logistics hub,” said Baltimore Development Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Colin Tarbert. “We are excited to see Home Chef grow in Baltimore and offer city residents employment."
