State program helps companies promote goods, services globally
BALTIMORE, MD (March 15, 2016) – Sixteen small and mid-sized Maryland companies have been awarded ExportMD grants to help promote their products and services in the global marketplace. The ExportMD grant program is administered by the Maryland Department of Commerce and helps businesses finance the costs of marketing internationally, including trade show fees, brochures and travel expenses. Applications are accepted on a bi-monthly basis and the next application deadline is April 1, 2016. Eligibility requirements can be found on the
Commerce website.
Commerce will lead a delegation of companies in April to Hannover Messe – the world’s leading event for industrial technology. DigitaLogic, Inc., a Baltimore engineering company, will use the ExportMD grant to travel to Germany and explore the global market.
“We feel that Hannover Messe is the appropriate venue for us to engage the broader international market. We’ve had great success with our product nationally, and we can use this trip to evaluate the possibility of a global expansion,” said Ali Khorramshahi, president of DigitaLogic. “We thank the Commerce team for their professional and cordial support that made this possible for us.”
“Through the ExportMD program, we have been able to assist dozens of small and mid-sized companies market their products and services to new overseas partners,” said Commerce Secretary Mike Gill. “As our world becomes increasingly competitive on a global scale, all companies need to look for new avenues for trade and investment.”
Established in 1999, the ExportMD program provides matching grants that are capped at $5,000 as well as up to 40 hours of marketing consulting from Commerce’s Office of International Investment and Trade. Last year, Maryland Commerce was awarded a $518,413 State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP) grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration to help fund the ExportMD program.
Maryland’s Office of International Investment and Trade works to stimulate foreign direct investment in the State, offers export assistance, and coordinates international trade and investment missions and trade show opportunities for Maryland companies. The state also maintains a network of eleven foreign trade offices overseas, including Canada (Montreal), China (Shanghai), Taiwan (Taipei), South Korea (Seoul), Africa (Nigeria), Mexico (Mexico City), Brazil (Sao Paulo), France (Paris), Israel (Tel Aviv), India (Delhi), and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai).
